Gutter Replacement: New Seamless Gutters Fabricated on Site

Most gutters can be repaired. Repair is the right call when the runs are sound and a seam, a hanger, or a downspout has failed. Replace them when the aluminum is rusted through, the fascia behind it is soft, or the runs keep losing pitch. A Dealer can tell you which you have in one inspection.

Gutter replacement is not a pitch you should have to sit through to get an answer. It is either necessary or it is not, and the deciding evidence is physical: the condition of the metal, the hangers, the fascia behind the channel, and whether water still reaches the downspout. This page covers how that decision gets made, what seamless replacement fabricated on site means, which cost drivers move the final number, and what the GutterDome warranty covers if the guard system itself needs attention later.

Do You Need New Gutters, or Can Yours Be Repaired?

Your gutters need replacement when the metal itself has failed, and they can be repaired when only a component has failed. A seam that opens, a hanger that pulls, a downspout connection that leaks, or a run that has slipped out of pitch is a repair. Corroded-through channel, crushed or separated sections, or gutters pulling away from rotted fascia is a replacement, because there is no sound material left to fasten a new guard or a new joint to. Your local Dealer answers this on site during a free inspection, with the gutter in front of them rather than a photo on a screen.

A maintenance routine protects whichever answer you land on. A twice-yearly check of the roof edge and the downspout outlets, which is on Chase's home maintenance checklist, catches a failing seam while it is still a seam.

What Are the Signs Your Gutters Are Past Repair?

The clearest sign is rust or corrosion through the channel, because a perforated gutter cannot be sealed from the inside. Our installation process inspects five things on every home: hanger spacing, gutter slope, fascia condition, seams and joints, and downspout flow. When those check out, the system gets cleaned, sealed, re-pitched and kept. When they do not, patching it is money spent on a channel that will fail again. Specifically, these conditions point to replacement rather than repair:

  • Rusted or corroded through the channel. A hole in the bottom or the face of the gutter lets water run behind it and against the fascia.
  • Sagging runs or gutters pulling away from the house. Often the fasteners have nothing left to bite into, or the fascia behind them has softened.
  • Soft, swollen or crumbling fascia and soffit. Wood that has taken on water will not hold a hanger or a new channel.
  • Repeated seam and joint failures in the same place. A repair that keeps returning is usually a sign the run moves, and a run that moves is a run that has lost its structure.
  • Pitch that cannot be corrected. Standing water in the channel after a rain means the run is not draining, and re-pitching cannot fix a channel whose shape is gone.

Water that escapes a failed gutter system does not disappear. It lands at the foundation, and the Insurance Information Institute calls water damage one of the most common and costly disasters affecting U.S. residences, accounting for billions of dollars in losses to homeowners every year. The same guidance tells homeowners to check downspouts, clear debris out of the rain gutters, and keep water running away from the house. That is the real cost of leaving a dead gutter system in place, and it is larger than the replacement. If you are not sure which side of that line your own gutters sit on, book a free gutter inspection and no-obligation estimate before the next storm.

What Does Seamless Replacement Fabricated on Site Actually Mean?

Seamless means the gutter is formed from one continuous piece of aluminum at your house, so the only seams on the finished run are at the corners and the end caps. Your Dealer brings a roll of flat aluminum and a roll-forming machine to the property, measures the exact run, and extrudes that length on site. Nothing is cut down from a pre-made 10-foot stick, and nothing is joined mid-run. Every joint that does not exist is a joint that cannot leak, separate, or collect debris.

It matters for a second reason. A guard has to sit on a straight, correctly pitched channel to shed water instead of overshooting it, and a run assembled from short sections will drift out of line over a few seasons. Seamless replacement gives the guard a stable base, which is why the two jobs are done together. If you are also considering a guard on a system that is still healthy, our gutter repair page covers the repair-first path, and if you simply want to know what a guard costs on a sound system, see what gutter guards cost.

What Drives the Cost of Gutter Replacement?

The cost of a replacement is set by measurement and access, not by a single per-foot rate advertised on a website. Five things move the number, and your Dealer can give you the exact figure only after measuring your roofline. We do not publish a replacement price because we do not have one that would survive contact with your house.

Cost Driver What It Changes Why It Moves Your Number
Linear feet of gutter How much aluminum is formed on site The raw length of every run plus corners, end caps and outlets. A single-story ranch and a two-story colonial are different jobs before anyone climbs a ladder.
Number of stories Labor time and access equipment Second-story and multi-level rooflines need taller ladders, fall protection and more time per foot. Tight side yards and townhome spacing add to it.
Roof pitch How the gutter is hung and which guard fits Pitches above a 6/12 change the guard choice, and steep or hipped rooflines take longer to work on safely.
Tear-off and disposal of the old system Removal, loading and dumping fees Old gutters come down before new ones go up, and that includes the downspouts and any nails or spikes left in the fascia.
Fascia and hanger condition Whether carpentry or structural repair is added Hidden fasteners need sound wood. Soft fascia, missing hangers or rotted sub-fascia has to be repaired first, or the new channel will not hold.

Two more things apply in most markets: the number of downspouts and their run length, and where you live, since labor rates run higher in dense metro areas than in smaller markets. None of these are surprises a Dealer should discover after you have signed. An estimate taken on site names them before the work starts, which is why the number belongs in person and not over the phone.

Is Your Gutter Guard Covered if It Needs Replacement?

Yes, and the term depends on which GutterDome profile you own: the 30-Year Lifetime Limited Warranty covers all six extruded aluminum styles, and the uPVC (GD45P) profile carries a 20-Year Lifetime Limited Warranty. Both transfer automatically, one time, if the home is sold. The full terms live on our warranty page, and one condition sits above all of it: who installed the system. A GutterDome Authorized Dealer installation carries the 30-Year Lifetime Limited Warranty and transfers with the home. An install by anyone else, a handyman or a homeowner, carries a 5-year limited warranty that does not transfer.

If a guard is damaged or a covered component fails, the claim path starts with the Authorized Dealer who installed your system, because that is the record the warranty runs through. Your Dealer confirms coverage against your install and handles the repair or replacement from there. We do not restate the terms here and you should not rely on a web page for them: the written warranty, and your installing Dealer, are the authority.

Can a Gutter Guard Be Repaired Instead of Replaced?

Often yes. A guard that has been pushed up at a corner, pulled loose at an end cap, dented by a ladder, or lifted where a tree limb landed on it is a repair, not a replacement. Those are local fastening and re-seating jobs, and the guard goes back to work the same visit. Replacement of the guard itself comes into play when the profile is crushed or bent past straight, when the mesh surface is torn, or when the guard was fitted to a channel that has since failed, in which case the gutter is the thing that needs attention first.

Guard damage after a storm is the most common reason homeowners call about this. If you are unsure which side of the line you are on, have it looked at rather than guessed at: a loose guard that keeps getting water behind it will eventually damage the fascia it was installed to protect.

How Do You Get a Free Gutter Inspection and No-Obligation Estimate?

Ask your local GutterDome Dealer for a free gutter inspection and a no-obligation estimate. Repair and replacement are both normal Dealer work. The inspection is the same walk-through our installation crews do: hanger spacing, slope, fascia condition, seams and downspout flow, plus a look at the roof edge and where water is actually landing. The estimate comes out of that inspection, so what you compare is the work the run actually needs rather than a single number on a business card.

Repair and inspection offers are set by each Authorized Dealer. Check with your local Authorized Dealer for their specific offers and policies.
