How Do I Keep Birds Out of My Gutters?
August 20, 2018
One common problem many homeowners face is how to keep birds out of their gutters. Not only can these feathery friends cause damage to the structure of the gutter, they can also deposit debris into a gutter, which can ultimately lead to blockages. Thankfully, there are several different measures you can take you make your gutters a bird-free zone.
Use a Decoy
Some homeowners purchase a decoy to put on their roofs. Decoy owls, hawks, eagles, and other birds of prey can frighten smaller birds and keep them from coming near your roof and gutters.
There are some natural scents that birds simply do not like. If you have trees around your gutter system, try coating the branches with garlic oil or spraying a mixture of ground chili peppers and water onto the branches nearest your home to keep birds from coming too close.
Invest in Gutter Guards
Of course, the best way to keep birds out of your gutters is to invest in a gutter guard system. These products form a barrier between the top of the gutter and the rest of the world that only water can penetrate – which means that they’ll keep more than just birds out of your gutters, but also leaves, roof grit, insects, and other debris too. Talk about killing two birds with one stone!
